Lydia “Lettie” Card Gardner
5 March 1847 ---- 2 March 1922Lydia Card was born March 5, 1847, at Litchfield, Mich. On December 18, 1867, she was united in marriage to Walker W. Gardner. Five children were born to bless this union: Lena, Ella, Mary, George, all deceased, and Mrs. May Packard, all of Eagle Grove.
They lived in Quincy, Ill., for one year and in 1869 they moved to Eldora, Iowa, and on March 18, 1887, they moved to Eagle Grove, where Mr. Gardner was engaged as a bridge builder for the railroads up until the time of his death on December 1, 1919.
Mrs. Gardner was a life-long member of the Christian church; her membership being held in Eldora. She was a good woman and tried to show her Christianity in the deed of kindness, generosity, and unselfish helpfulness. She was also a member of the W.R.C.
Death came at 6:45 Thursday evening, March 2nd. At the time of her death, she was 74 years, 11 months, and 27 days of age.
She leaves her daughter, Mrs. A. H. Packard; a sister, Mrs. G. H. Tolman, of Eldora; three brothers, Peter Card, of Toledo, Ohio; Ezra Card, of Waterloo, Iowa; George Card, of Albion, Mich., and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at her home, 317 East Third Street North, on Saturday at 2:00 o’clock. The sermon was preached by Rev. W. G. Muhleman.
Interment was made in Rose Hill cemetery.
