Francis Dale Barrick, 85, of rural Center Point, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2021, of multiple myeloma, surrounded by his family at his home. The family will greet friends from 4:30 to
6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, at the funeral home, conducted by Pastors Susan Higdon and Sue Ney, with an additional visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Alice Cemetery in rural Center Point, Iowa. All guests are respectfully requested to wear a face mask and practice social distancing.

Francis was born on Sept. 20, 1935, in Wright County, Iowa, the son of Amos and Sylvia Bernice (Ayers) Barrick. He graduated from Blairsburg High School and went on to attend Mason City Junior College and the University of Iowa. Francis served honorably in the U.S. Air Force, from 1955 to 1958. In 1959, while attending college in Mason City, Francis went to a local CPA office to get his taxes done. It was there where he met the love of his life and future wife, Lola Mae Deike. They were united in marriage on June 18, 1960, at the First Reformed Church in Meservey, Iowa.

Francis was a great provider; while farming their 140 acres, he worked at Collins Radio for nearly 30 years, retiring in 1991. He and Lola have been active members of Alice United Methodist Church, in rural Center Point, for 58 years. Francis was a big advocate for the church, of which he served in many positions, including treasurer and Sunday School Teacher. Francis recruited many children to attend the Bible School program. He was an avid, loyal Iowa Hawkeyes fan, watching and listening to many Iowa basketball and football games. Francis enjoyed his family vacations, traveling with Lola on bus trips and visiting family. Most of all, Francis loved spending time with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Francis is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Lola Barrick of Center Point; son, Jeffrey Barrick of Center Point; three daughters, Cindy (Lester) Franzen of Waverly, Iowa, Laurie Barrick of Cedar Rapids, and Jody (Terry) Shields of Denver, Colo.; one brother, Jerry (Leita) Barrick of Marshalltown, Iowa; six grandchildren, Josie Anderson, Stephanie (Zack) Strong, Mark Ruiz, Kelly Franzen, Shawn Franzen and Rachel (Andrew) Wellman; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Amos and Sylvia Bernice Barrick; four brothers, Harry, Ray, Clarence and Charles Barrick; and one sister, Betty Barrick.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all the staff with UnityPoint Hospice, for the care and compassion they gave to Francis during his brief illness. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family in his memory, to be designated later.
