Rodney "Pete" Diggins
September 30, 1944 ---- January 17, 2021

Rodney “Pete” Diggins, 76, of Marshalltown, Iowa formerly of Eagle Grove, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at UnityPoint Health – Marshalltown under the care of UnityPoint Hospice.

Per the wishes of Pete and his family, cremation rites have been accorded and a celebration of life will take place at a later time. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation or in Pete’s name to a favorite charity of choice. Mitchell Family Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of Pete and his family.

Born Rodney Dean Diggins on September 30, 1944 in Fort Dodge, Iowa, he was the son of Ronald V. and Orpha Lenore (Alban) Diggins. After graduating from high school in Eagle Grove, he attended Buena Vista University, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Social Services.

On June 15, 1974, Pete was united in marriage to Marilyn Swendson in Eagle Grove. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Marshalltown, where they have called home ever since. He worked at D&M Home Furnishings in Tama from 1976-1989, Lutheran Brotherhood from 1989-1995 and as an AAA Insurance Agent from 1995-2006, when he retired. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. He was an avid Cyclones and Cubs fan and a member of Elim Lutheran Church.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 46 years, Marilyn; his children: Kenny (Mandy) Diggins and Kristense (Shane) Rose; grandchildren: Emily Diggins, Grace Diggins, Herizen Rose and Kazen Rose and his sisters: Karen Kos and Janine Johnson. In death, Pete is reunited with his parents; his son Mark, who died in infancy; his brother Ronald Diggins, brother-in-law James Kos and sister-in-law Delores Diggins.
