Alvin J. Olson, 77, of Eagle Grove, died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge. Services will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. from the Samuel Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Eagle Grove. Visitation is 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at the Foust Funeral in Eagle Grove.

Alvin Joseph Olson, the son of Andrew and Jennie (Pederson) Olson, was born November 24, 1931, in Kanawha, Iowa, where he was raised and educated. Alvin served in the United States Marine Corps from February of 1953 until February 1956 - he drove trucks, transporting materials for the military. On February 7, 1959, Alvin was united in marriage with Elaine Chentland at Zion Lutheran Church in Radcliffe. The couple made their home and farmed south of Clarion before they moved to a farm west of Eagle Grove in 1963. Alvin enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, farming, and raising hogs and a cow/calf herd. He was a member of Samuel Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove.

Alvin Olson passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at Trinity Regional Medical Center, in Fort Dodge, at the age of 77 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Helen Casey; and a brother, Kenneth Olson.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine Olson of Eagle Grove; son, Charles "Chuck" (Leann) Olson of Columbia, Mo., son, Steve Olson of Eagle Grove, daughter, Barbara (Duane) Petty of Gladbrook, daughter, Lori (Jim) Eldridge of Terril, and son, Rodney (Laura) Olson of Eagle Grove; 9 grandchildren: Blake (Chelsa) Olson, Bryce Olson, Ryan Petty, Luke Petty, Ethan Eldridge, Isaac Eldridge, Kati Olson, Kristi Olson and Kalli Olson; one great-grandchild, Bridget Olson; two step-grandchildren, Jackie (Scott) Stephenson and Erin (David) Van Dyke; three step-great-grandchildren, Drayson Stephenson and Victoria and Isabella Van Dyke; two sisters, Mildred (Kenneth) Lofgreen of Salt Lake City, UT and Vivian (Robert) Crandall of Eagle Grove.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 21,10:30 a.m., at the Samuel Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor Richard Taylor officiating. Burial was held in Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family. Foust Funeral Home of Eagle Grove was in charge of Arrangements.
