Death Removes Pioneer Citizen

This community was saddened last Tuesday evening upon hearing that Andrew Wright had been stricken with a stroke of paralysis. Mr. Wright was at once unconscious, from which he did not rally. His death occurred Monday morning, January 2nd. Funeral services were held on Thursday at ten o'clock at the Congregational church, at which church Mr. Wright was a regular attendant.

Mr. Wright was one of the pioneer settlers of this community and was a prominent citizen in the life and prosperity of the community.

Mr. Andrew Wright was born in Ireland on June 1, 1831. He was married to Mary Montgomery in 1850 and came to this country in 1852. He settled in Cambridge, Mass., and all the family were born at that place, three sons, George, Will and James; five daughters, Jennie, Susan, Minnie, Annie and Lelia [Lela], of whom James and Lelia [Lela] are dead.

He came to Iowa in the fall of '68 and settled in Jones county, but he had already bought land in Wright county, and in 1872 he moved to the farm upon which he lived and has now died. His wife died in 1892. His family were with him at the time of his death with the exception of Jennie Davis, who is living at Seattle, Wash.

He has enjoyed good health this winter and on Christmas day entertained his children and their unmarried families at his home and expressed a great desire for the whole family join in a birthday party June 1st.

On Tuesday evening December 27, he seemed in his usual health until after supper when he was stricken with paralysis and soon became unconscious, remaining so until death, which occurred early Monday morning.

Misses Mary and Vera Montgomery did not return to Grinnell college until Friday last week, remaining at home because of the death and burial of their grandfather, Andrew Wright, of Eagle Grove.
