Ida Thelena Sheldon was born on a farm near Badger in Beaver Township, Humboldt County, Iowa on August 25, 1896 the daughter of Erick and Ingeborg (Larson) Sheldon. As a child, her family moved to Norway Township, Humboldt County near Thor. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in the Badger Lutheran Church. She was educated in the rural schools in the area and attended Waldorf College, Forest City, Iowa.

She married John Vorrie of Thor on January 16, 1924 at the Thor parsonage, and they farmed in the Thor area. He died on April 10, 1970, and she continued to live on the farm until she entered the Friendship Haven Health Care Center at Fort Dodge the spring of 1989.

She was a member of the Ullensvang Lutheran Church, Thor, and a life member of the U.L.C.W. and Rebecca Circle of the church, Sons of Norway and the Sognefjordlaget in America.

Ida Vorrie, 97, died July 23, 1994 at Thompkins Health Center in Fort Dodge.

Survivors include a daughter, Frances and her husband, Dr. James E. Young, Moline, Ill.; three sons, Everett and his wife, Isabel, Green Valley, Ariz.; C. Lorelle and his wife, Betty, Fort Dodge; and Norbert, Thor, five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; one sister, Louise (Sheldon) Larson; and two brothers, Ole and Lewis Sheldon.

Services were held Tuesday, July 26 at 1:30 p.m. at the Ullensvang Lutheran Church in Thor with Rev. Fred Scherle officiating. Burial was in Blossom Hill Cemetery near Badger.
