Jayna Lynn (DeWaard) Fontenot, 47, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2020, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, a limited number of guests will be allowed in the funeral home at one time. All guests are respectfully requested to wear a face mask and practice social distancing. A private family burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Cemetery.

Jayna was born on August 8, 1973, in Britt, Iowa, the daughter of John and Jerry (Maw) DeWaard. She graduated from West Hancock High School and went on to attend Northwestern College, receiving her degree in Computer Science. On December 17, 1994, Jayna was united in marriage to Joe Fontenot. To this union, twin daughters were born, Elizabeth and Katelyn. Jayna and Joe later divorced. Jayna worked for United Fire Group in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She enjoyed volunteering, helping with Girl Scouts, Show Choir, and was the PTO president. Jayna enjoyed watching reality TV shows and loved her pets. She had a very close relationship with her twin daughters, which was seen by anyone they met. Jayna’s daughters, Elizabeth and Katelyn, meant everything to her. She will be greatly missed by them, and by everyone who knew and loved her.

Jayna is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughters, Elizabeth Paige Fontenot and Katelyn Nicole Fontenot both of Marion; brother, Jesse DeWaard of Fort Worth, Texas; father, John (Phyllis) DeWaard of Kanawha, Iowa; and grandparents, Henry and Josie DeWaard of Kanawha, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her mother, Jerry Dewaard, and her first born, Barkley.
