Herman Guse, a resident of near Popejoy, passed away Friday of last week following an illness of about three weeks. Death was caused by an attack of influenza followed by complications.

Herman Guse, third child of Carl and Claudia Guse was born in Germany on September 18, 1890 and died at his home southeast of Popejoy on the morning of December 24, 1926 at the age of 36 years, 3 months and 6 days.

When a baby of a few months, he came to this country with his parents who settled near Anchor, Illinois where they remained until 1911 when the family moved to Iowa and settled near Fort Dodge. The following year, Herman came to this vicinity and settled on a farm northeast of Popejoy where he resided for many years. While there he was married to Florence Rose which to this union were born five children: Edith, Dora, Melvin, Harry and Howard, all at home and in school. Since their marriage they have lived in Dows and Popejoy vicinity with the exception of one year spent near Goldfield, and the family has always been held in high esteem by neighbors and friends which are unnumbered.

While at home with his parents, he was confirmed in the Lutheran church at Anchor, IL and a few years following his marriage, he with his wife, united with the Presbyterian church at Dows which he was a member at the time of his death.

Besides his sorrowing wife and five children, he leaves to mourn his loss, his father Carl of Eagle Grove; two sisters: Mrs. Herman Hinrichsen of Eagle Grove and Mrs. Herman Beecher of Anchor, IL and two brothers: Otto and Carl Guse, both of Anchor, IL. His mother preceded him in death twenty-seven years ago.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Presbyterian church in Dows. Interment was made in the Dows Fairview Cemetery.
