R. Schweiger Killed In Action over Tokyo

Dows—Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Schweiger received word from the War Department last Thursday that their youngest son, Pvt. Raymond Schweiger, had been killed in action during a bombing mission in a B-29 over Tokyo February 26. Raymond spent his last furlough at home with his wife and little son, and his parents the fore part of January, before being transferred overseas about February 1st when he landed on the Marianas Islands.

Schweiger was born and raised in Dows and received his education in the Dows schools, Graduating with the class of 1941. He entered Coe college in the fall of 1941. He entered the marine corps as a cadet student pilotear late and took training at Iowa City, Dubuque and Glenview, Ill. In October, 1943, he was inducted into the regular army and immediately received his basic training at Jefferson Barracks, Mo. He took further training as a pilot at Kendall Field, Fla., and later transferred to Clovis, N. M., completing his training at Herrington, Kan. Pvt. Schweiger was united in marriage to Miss Berniece Peyton in January, 1944, whom with their little son, Daniel, remain to mourn his loss.
