GREENE – Vern O. Echelberger, 72, of 301 E. South St., died Wednesday (May 21, 1997) at Franklin County General Hospital, Hampton.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Galen E. Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Dows, with graveside military honors conducted by Tack Barnett Post 268 American Legion of Greene.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday at Reid's Funeral Chapel, with a 7:30 p.m. public Scripture service, followed by public Masonic services conducted by Vulcan Lodge 498 A.F. & A.M. of Bristow. Visitation will continue one hour before services on Saturday at the church.

Vern Orvis Echelberger was born July 25, 1924, in Stratford, Hamilton County.

Survivors include his wife, Berniece of Greene; two sons, Dan Schwieger of Greene, and Royce Echelberger of Hampton; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Avonelle Jetmund of Ogden, and Mary Lou Thompson of Belmond.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Vern O. Echelberger Memorial Fund for Community Projects in care of the family.

Vern O. Echelberger, 72, of Greene died of cancer Wednesday at Franklin County General Hospital in Hampton. Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at First Presbyterian Church in Greene.

Mr. Echelberger, a Butler County supervisor, was former owner of Echelberger John Deere Implement company until he retired in 1985.

Surviving are his wife, Berniece; two sons, Dan Schwieger of Greene and Royce Echelberger of Hampton; two sisters, Avonelle Jetmund of Ogden and Mary Lou Thompson of Belmond; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Reid's Funeral Chapel in Greene is handling arrangements.
