William W. Douglas, Sr., died on Thursday, September 5, 2002, at the Wright Medical Center in Clarion, Iowa, at the age of 79.

Survivors include his wife, Althea, Goldfield, Iowa; his children, Judy Frakes, Eagle Grove, Jacquelyn Tharp, Blue Grass, Michael Douglas, Boxelder, S. D., William Douglas, Jr., Goldfield, Debra Thompson, Eddyville, Lori Weets, Goldfield, and Connie Ruiter, Goldfield; 18 grandchildren; 7 great- grandchildren; one brother, Richard Douglas, Olathe, Kan.; and two sisters, Rosella Douglas, Olathe, and Betty Ridenour, Belle, Mo.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Samuel Douglas, Jr., and Robert Douglas; and infant siblings, Helen and Steven Douglas.

William W. Douglas, Sr., the son of Samuel and Lillian (Paskin) Douglas, was born on April 18, 1923, in Clarion. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth, graduating from Clarion High School. He was united in marriage to Althea Griffith on January 22, 1943, in Bethany, Mo. He served in the United States Army during World War II. They returned to Goldfield in 1947, where they made their home and raised seven children. He was a fifty-year member of the Local Union 33, he worked as a plumber and pipe fitter. He was a member of the Goldfield United Methodist Church and the Church Council. He served on the Goldfield City Council and served as the Mayor of Goldfield for two separate terms. He was also a member of the Goldfield American Legion.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 7, at 11 a.m., at the Goldfield United Methodist Church with Reverend Karen Groe Dearchs officiating. Burial was held in the Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.

Foust Funeral Home of Eagle Grove was in charge of arrangements
