Winfield Scott Comstock was born at Lottsville, Warren county. Pennsylvania. Feb. 23, 1845 and died at Eagle Grove, Iowa, Monday. Sept. 26, 1898 at 2:45 a. m., aged 53 years, 7 months and 3 days. Mr. Comstock's childhood and young manhood were spent in his native town and there in 1867 he was married to Lucretia Emily Whitely. To them were born eight children, of whom six survive: F. E., Roy, Archie, Mrs. Nellie Allard and Daisy of this city and Leslie of Oskaloosa.

A few weeks after their marriage in 1867 Mr. Comstock and bride left the old home and went to Neosha county, Kansas, where for eight years they made their home. In 1875 they moved to Iowa and after a short residence in the central part of the state came to Eagle Grove which has been their home ever since.

Mr. Comstock enlisted in the Union army at the age of seventeen years and served through the war with faithfulness and fidelity.

In the death of Mr. Comstock Eagle Grove loses one of her best citizens. In the early days and always until failing health forbade, he was one of the workers. He was a loving husband and a kind father and his death is a severe blow to the wife and children left. He had been a member of the Methodist church for many years and was always a consistent christian.

That his sorrowing family may find consolation in the thought of a life well spent and nobly ended, after weeks of most severe suffering, is the sympathy extended to them by many friends.

The funeral will occur Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Methodist church.
