Verven Leonard Reichter was born February 17, 1911, in Liberty Township near Goldfield, Iowa, to Asa H. and Edna Iva Pletcher Reichter. He attended grade school at Wheeler School and graduated with the class of 1928 from Goldfield High School. He was united in marriage to Marvyl Harvey on September 21, 1930, at the Goldfield Baptist parsonage. He lived all of his life in the Goldfield area where he was a farmer. He was a member of the Goldfield Baptist Church until it closed in 1950 and later attended the Renwick Baptist Church. He was the manager of the 4-H softball team, a charter member of the Goldfield Lion's Club, and a member of the Wright County Farm Bureau.

Verven Leonard Reichter died July 2, 1998, at Clarion, Iowa, at the age of 87.

Survivors include his wife, Marvyl, of Goldfield; three children, Beryl Reichter, and his wife, Dorothy, of Goldfield, Jean and her husband, Kenneth Gillespie, of Kearney, Mo., and Arlo Reichter and his wife, Dianne from Anderson, Ind.; one daughter-in-law, Janet Reichter, of Denison; one sister, Blanche Peterson of Friendswood, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Richard; one son, Marvin; and one grandson, Bryan.

Funeral services were held on Monday, July 6, 1998, at the Renwick Baptist Church, Renwick, at 10:30 a.m., with Reverend Eldon L. Elmore officiating. Burial was held in Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield.

Willim Funeral Home, Eagle Grove, was in charge of arrangements.
