Mrs. Laura Beck Dies; Rites Set

Mrs. Laura Beck, 80, died Thursday afternoon at a local nursing home where she had resided recently. She was the mother of Mrs. Marcus Powell, of lowa City.

Born December 16, 1879, at Exira, she was a daughter of Charles and Martha Ellen Davis Egbert. She was married to Bert J. Beck July 28, 1900.

The couple resided at Goldfield where Mr. Beck was a rural mail carrier. Mrs. Beck was a member of the Goldfield Presbyterian church and the Rural Mail Carriers association auxiliary.

Survivors Include two sons, Shelby E., of Pequot Lakes, Minn., and Harold Devere as well as three daughters, Mrs. Powell, Mrs. Roscoe. Swartz, of Tucson, Ariz., and Mrs. Clyde Good, of Portland, Ore. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Her husband died in January, 1959, a son Richard, in 1956, and a brother, Thomas, in 1946.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Eagle Grove with burial to be in Goldfield. Friends may call at the Oathout funeral chapel here through Sunday evening.

Obituary

Laura Myrtle Beck, daughter of Charles and Martha Ellen Davis Egbert, was born Dec. 16, 1879 at Exira and passed away at the Lindley Nursing Home in Iowa City Thursday afternoon, Sept. 22.

On July 28, 1900 she was united in marriage to Bert J. Beck, who preceded her in death on Jan. 18, 1959. To this union were born three sons and four daughters.

After their marriage they established their home in Goldfield where they were life long residents.

Mrs. Beck was a member of the United Presbyterian Church and the Auxiliary of Rural Mail Carriers Assn.

She is survived by two sons, Shelby E. of Pequot Lakes, Minn., and Harold Devere and three daughters, Mrs. Roscoe Swartz of Tucson, Ariz., Mrs. Marcus Powell of Iowa City and Mrs. Clyde Good of Portland, Ore., and 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren Besides her husband she was preceded in death by a son, Richard and a brother.

Funeral services were held Sept. 28 at the Sacquety chapel in Eagle Grove, in charge of Rev. Kay Mills. Interment was in Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield.
