Bert Beck Dies; Rites Wednesday

Bert J. Beck, 80, died Sunday morning at University Hospital, Iowa City following a long illness. A resident of Goldfield, he was the father of Mrs. Marcus Powell, of 1802 East College street.

Born January 30, 1878, near Holmes, Iowa, he was son of Edward and Martha Burnett Beck. He was married to the former Laura Myrtle Egbert, July 28, 1900, and the couple resided at Goldfield where Mr. Beck was a rural mail carrier. He retired in 1934 and later was a carpenter.

Mr. Beck was a member of the National Rural Mail Carriers association and the National Rifle association.

Survivors include his widow, three daughters, Mrs. Powell, Mrs. Roscoe Swartz, Tucson, Ariz., and Mrs. Clyde Good, Portland Ore., and two sons, Shelby E. Beck, Pequot Lakes, Minn., and Harold D. Beck. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, five great grandchildren and two brothers, John Beck, Elmore, Minn., and William J. Beck, West Webster, N. Y.

One son, Richard, preceded him in death in 1956.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Eagle Grove with burial to be in Goldfield. Friends may call at the Oatout funeral chapel here through Tuesday evening.

Bert Beck Dies

Bert Beck passed away Sunday morning at Iowa City. Funeral services will be Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Sacquety funeral home in Eagle Grove. Rev. Cassius McKnight will have charge of the services. Burial will be in the Glenwood cemetery in Goldfield. He was a former Goldfield resident.
