BEN BJORNSON, 100 INJURED IN FALL

Ben Bjornson, who observed his 100th birthday last July, fell at his home here the first of the week and had been bed fast since that time. At first it was feared he had broken his hip in the fall but later it was found that he is suffering from shock and bruises.

Ben Bjornson, 100, Wright county's oldest citizen, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ada Rasmussen, early yesterday morning. Mr. Bjornson had been in good health until he fell at his home the first of the month. He had been in a serious condition since that time.

Mr. Bjornson was born near Clyman, Dodge county, Wisconsin, on July 27, 1846. He came to Iowa in 1865 and settled on a farm near the Boone river northwest of Goldfield. He was united in marriage to Miss Amanda Montgomery, the first white child born in Wright county, on October I8, 1876. The couple settled on a farm now occupied by their son, Frank Bjornson and family. Mr. Bjornson resided in that vicinity for nearly 65 years. About four years ago he moved to Goldfield to make his home with his daughter, Mrs. Rasmussen.

The deceased is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Ada Rasmussen of Goldfield, four sons, Frank J., Arthur E. and Fred Bjornson, all of this community, and Homer Bjornson of Humboldt. He is also survived by a number of grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as well as numerous other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at the Baptist church with the Rev. M. L. Christensen conducting the service assisted by the Rev. Leslie Williams.

Burial will be in the family lot at Glenwood cemetery.

Ben H. Bjornson, 100, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ada Rasmussen, about 7 o’clock Wednesday morning. Mr. Bjornson had a bad fall last week and since that time his life had been despaired of.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 at the Baptist church. Rev. M. L. Christensen, assisted by Rev. Williams, the pastor will be in charge. Burial will be in Glenwood cemetery.

Mr. Bjornson is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Rasmussen, and four sons, Art, Frank, Fred, and Homer.

Mr. Bjornson was honored at a party in Goldfield last summer on July 27, the occasion of his one hundredth birthday.

Funeral services for H. B. (Ben) Bjornson, 100, who died at his home here early last Wednesday morning following a short illness, were held at Goldfield Baptist church Friday afternoon at 2:30 with the Rev. M. L. Christensen officiating, assisted by the Rev. Leslie Williams.

Burial was in the family lot in Glenwood cemetery.

Mr. Bjornson, Wright county's oldest resident, had been quite active for his advanced age and, until he was injured in a fall recently, he was able to be uptown nearly every day. Since his fall he had been confined to his home.

Born In Wisconsin

Mr. Bjornson was born in Dodge county, Wis., July 27, 1846 and he came to Wright county in 1865 and settled on a farm near the Boone river northwest of Goldfield.

As a young man he followed the trade of a mason and was employed on projects at Fort Randall, and Fort Sully, S. D., and at Sioux City. He also spent some time in Nebraska as a cattleman and was one of the first pioneers to assist in the development of the country along the Missouri river.

He was one of the first settlers in this locality and Oct. 18, 1876, he was married to Miss Amanda Montgomery, the first white child born in Wright county. The couple settled on the farm now occupied by a son, Frank Bjornson, and family.

Mr. Bjornson had lived in this vicinity for about 65 years and four years ago he moved into town, where he had been making his home with a daughter, Mrs. Ada Rasmussen.

Mr. Bjornson was an active member of the local Baptist church and he was a charter member of the Fountain City Masonic lodge here.

His survivors are his daughter, Mrs. Rasmussen; four sons, Arthur E., Fred and Frank J., all of this community and Homer of Humboldt.
