KANAWHA, IA — Walter H. Moeller, 88, died Saturday (Sept. 12, 1998) in Kanawha. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Kanawha Lutheran Church with the Rev. Keith Sievers officiating. Burial will be in the Amsterdam Cemetery with military graveside services under the direction of the Kanawha American Legion. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ewing-Dugger Funeral Chapel, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Walter H. Moeller was born Dec. 19, 1909, in Eicholz, Germany. Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Moeller of Kanawha; one son, Walter Lee Moeller of Simi Valley, Calif.; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a daughter in infancy, two brothers, and one sister.

Walter Herman Moeller, 88, passed away Saturday, September 12, 1998, at his daughter’s shop in Kanawha, Iowa, where he did woodworking projects.

Walter, the son of Herman and Dorothea (Lauck) Moeller, was born December 19, 1909 in Eicholz, Germany. At the age of four he immigrated to the United States with his family, settling in Pipestone, Minnesota. Walter received his education in the country school and later attended Dunwoody Institute where he studied to be a mechanical designer. He was united in marriage with Beulah Brunssen on July 21, 1938 in Pipestone, MN. During World War II, Walter served with the 608 John Deere Battalion in England and Belgium. Following his discharge he returned to Lakefield. Later, the couple moved to Kanawha where they took over a fledgling John Deere Implement Dealership. Walter designed and manufactured the “Quick-Tach”, a cultivator hitch later used by John Deere. In 1983, the couple sold their business, wintered in Arizona, and returned to Kanawha during the summer months.

Walter loved fishing for northerns and reminiscing military memories at the John Deere Battalion Reunion, which he attended every two years. He was active on the Kanawha City Council, instrumental in the groundwork of the Kanawha Community Home, and active in the VFW and American Legion.

Walter is survived by one daughter, Nancy Moeller of Kanawha, IA; one son, Walter Lee Moeller of Simi Valley, CA; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one daughter in infancy, one sister and two brothers.
