Charlotte R. Whalen, 85, of Webster City, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died March 20. She was born Aug. 30, 1896, in Fort Dodge. She was married to James Whalen, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Whalen was employed as social director at Mount Mercy College from 1965 to 1971. She then moved to Webster City. Surviving are a son, James of Orinda, Calif.; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; three brothers, Thomas Ford, Gilmore City, James Ford, San Diego, and Clem Ford, Sioux Falls, S.D.; two sisters, Mrs. Julia McHaley, Fort Dodge, and Mrs. Helen Henry, Kansas City, Mo. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Webster City, where services were held March 27. The body was donated to the University of Iowa Medical School.
