Bernice E. (Severson) Peterson
October 27, 1898 ---- January 2, 1993

Mrs. Bernice Ella Peterson, 94, a resident of Britt for approximately 55 years, and of the Kanawha Community Home since 1984, died Saturday, January 2, 1993 at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Peterson was born Plattville, Illinois, on October 27, 1898, to Henry and Margaret (Johnson) Severson. When she was a very young child, she moved with her family to Kanawha, where she grew up.

She was married to Andrew O. Peterson of Goodell, on July 18, 1917, at Clarion, Iowa. They farmed in the Kanawha vicinity until moving to Britt. She worked as a waitress in several restaurants in Britt and also worked in the kitchen of Hancock County Memorial Hospital.

She was active in the Grandmothers Club and the Senior Citizens. Her hobbies were raising flowers and doing handiwork, such as crocheting and embroidering, which she always had at the hobby fair.

She is survived by one son, Melvin and his wife, Vi; one grandson, Phillip and his wife, Rita; a great-granddaughter, Lisa; and two great-grandsons: Kris and Marc all of Phoenix, Arizona. She is also survived by three sisters: Gladys Chelsvig, Frances Anderson and Arlene Ziegler, all of Kanawha, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, on February 20, 1959, her parents, a brother, Harvey Severson, four sisters: Mrs. Elmer (Edna) Anderson, Mrs. Andrew (Minnie) Heggen, Miss Hazel Severson, Mrs. Leonard (Lillie) Anderson.
