William Brophy
15 December 1889 --- 6 November 1954

William Brophy, the oldest son of Patrick and Johanna Ryan Brophy, was born at De Witt, Ill., Dec. 15, 1889. In early childhood he moved with his family to the vicinity of Des Moines. In 1916 he moved to Algona and farmed in partnership with his brothers, George and James. November 27, 1917, he married Leah Boyd of Boone. Five children were born to this union: (Ella Mae) Mrs. Earl Angle of Burt, Junior of Hardy, (Evelyn) Mrs. Joseph Olsieski of Cleveland, Ohio, Ray of Hardy and (Lois Ann) Mrs. Dick Kopp of Fort Dodge.

Mr. and Mrs. Brophy and family moved to Hardy in 1938. Mr. Brophy's parents, his brother George, and one grandson preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Leah; five children; 12 grandchildren, and a brother, James. Mr. Brophy had been in failing health, but his death came suddenly at his home Nov. 6.

Funeral services were held Nov. 9 at the Hardy Methodist church with the Rev. Chester E. Custer officiating. The soloist was Richard McCutcheon and the pianist was Allen Wigans. There were many floral offerings and memorial gifts. The pallbearers were Otis Lane, William McClain, George Louthan, James Gilligan, Orrie Stevenson and Lee J. Boyd. Interment was made in the Vernon Cemetery.
