Ray Elwin McGonigle

Ray Elwin McGonigle, 99, of Burr Oak Manor in Austin, Minnesota and formerly of 1005 Eighth Ave. N.E., died Sunday afternoon (Feb. 21, 1993) at the nursing home.

Born Nov. 28, 1893, in Hamilton County, Iowa, he grew up there and attended schools in the Jewell area. On Feb. 22, 1917, he married Eunice Almedia Holt and they lived at Jewell, Titonka, Webster City and Eagle Grove, Iowa, before moving to Austin in 1940. His wife died March 24, 1970. He was a former Hormel Foods Corp. employee.

Survivors include three sons, Ronald of Chula Vista, Calif., and Arlo and Cecil, both of Austin; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and two sisters, Leota Johnson of Bancroft, Iowa, and Valetta (Mrs. Leonard) Jones of Winner, S.D. Five sisters and six brothers preceded him in death.

The funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Crane Community Chapel in Austin, with the Rev. Joe Matt officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery in Austin. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and an hour before the service at the church.
