HAROLD E. KNUTSON

Harold Edward Knutson was born in Hardy, Iowa on April 30, 1930 to Olaf and Sadie (Nervig) Knutson. He was baptized and confirmed at Ullensvang Lutheran Church in Thor, Iowa. He attended grade school in Thor and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1948. Harold worked with his dad in trucking. He married Mildred Knutson on February 16, 1952 in Eagle Grove. They farmed the Gunner Knutson farm north of Goldfield, Iowa for seven years. The family moved to Eagle Grove in 1959. Harold worked in the trucking business for Ellsworth and Umthun Trucking. He was custodian for the Evangelical Lutheran Church and drove a school bus. He retired in 1992.

As a young man he played baseball. Later coached softball and baseball for girls and boys. He umpired fast pitch softball and umpired for youth summer ball. He was an avid golfer and played regularly with the over 50 group and played every day until his health failed.

Harold E. Knutson, 69, died Thursday, May 20, 1999 at his home in Eagle Grove.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife Mildred of Eagle Grove; six daughters: Carol Magoon of Eldora, Iowa; Connie Linn and husband Alan of Eagle Grove; Christy Christensen and husband Kelly of Eagle Grove; Caryn Gray and husband Mike of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Cathy Secoy and husband Kevin of Thornton, Colo.; and Camilla Grandgeorge and husband Bob of Woolstock, Iowa; two sons: Tom Knutson of Eagle Grove, and Tim Knutson and wife Joan of Eagle Grove; 21 grandchildren; two brothers: Bob Knutson of Longville, Minn.; and Charles of Longwood, Fla.; two sisters: Shirley Morgan of Fort Dodge, and Sandra Campbell of Eagle Grove.

Funeral services, for Harold Knutson, were held Saturday, May 22, 1999 at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove, with Rev. Paul E. Stone officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Eagle Grove. Willim Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials are to be directed to the Wright County Hospice.
