Last Rites Held for Leo Pletcher

Leo Pletcher, brother of Mrs. Earl Prettyman, died at Broadlawns General hospital at Des Moines on Saturday afternoon. The body was brought here for burial and the funeral service was held at the Prettyman home Tuesday afternoon.

Leo Pletcher was 32 years old at the time of his death. He became ill at the home of his sister here on Sept. 28 and was taken to Des Moines where he submitted to an operation from which he was unable to recover. He was in the United States navy from which he received an honorable discharge on Sept. 16, 1931. He was a member of V. F. W. He is survived by a brother, Francis Pletcher and his sister.

Rev. W. S. Handy had charge of the service at the house and the American Legion gave the military service at the cemetery. Relatives from out-of-town who attended the service were: Mr. and Mrs. Winston Pletcher and family of Crystal Lake, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Pletcher, Mrs. Isaac Knutson and Miss Ruth Pletcher of Eagle Grove, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Pletcher and daughter, and Mrs. Chris Siebert of Clarion.

Ambulance Makes Des Moines Trip

The Wilson Funeral Chapel ambulance went to Des Moines Saturday after the remains of Leo Pletcher, who died Saturday afternoon. Burial was in Goldfield on Tuesday afternoon.

Funeral services for Leo Pletcher, 32, a World war veteran were held here on Tuesday. Mr. Pletcher who was visiting at the home of his sister Mrs. Earl Prettyman early this fall was taken seriously ill while visiting here and he was taken to the Veterans Bureau in Des Moines where it was found an operation was necessary. The first operation failed to give the needed relief and a second was performed. Pneumonia and peritonitis set in and he passed away on Saturday, Nov. 12.

Mr. Pletcher was born March 5, 1900. During the World war he enlisted in the Navy and served three terms, a period of thirteen years. He was honorably discharged Sept. 16, 1931 due to physical disability and spent six months at a veterans' hospital in Kansas City, being discharged from there during the summer.

After his discharge from the hospital he came here for a visit with relatives. While visiting here he was taken seriously ill and was rushed to the hospital where he died.

Funeral services were held from the Earl Prettyman home Tuesday afternoon with Rev. W. S. Handy in charge. Burial rites at the Glenwood cemetery were in charge of the Earl B. Beisell American Legion post.
