January 18, 1849 --- August 14, 1916

After an illness more or less serious for several months, due to heart trouble, E. S. Cleveland passed away Monday night at his residence in the east part of the city. Funeral services were held at the home this morning at 10 o'clock, in charge of Rev. Littleton, and the remains were taken to Goldfield for interment.

E. S. Cleveland was a native of Maine, having been born in Somerset county, January 18th, 1849, being 67 years of age on the last anniversary of his birth. In early manhood Mr. Cleveland taught school for a few years, but the call of the soil found him in Wright county, and in 1869 he purchased eighty, acres of land in Lake township at $2.50 per acre. Moving here in 1877 he located in Dayton township. After living on a rented farm for three years, he took possession of his own land. To this he added other tracts until he had accumulated a fine farm of 440 acres. In 1910 he gave up the burden of the farm and came to Clarion to spend his remaining years in comparative ease.

On March 14th, 1869, Mr. Cleveland was joined in marriage to Miss Adaline [Adeline] Adams of Green county, Wisconsin. A family of ten children blessed this union, one passing away in infancy. The others are, Geo., Chas., William, Arthur, Walter, Allen, Evelyn, Harry, and Ellen.

Mr. Cleveland's, character was beyond reproach, and his dealings with his fellowmen were never questioned. He lived a useful and well spent life. He was a faithful husband and a kind father, and his death will be deeply mourned by his wife arid children as well as by many friends,

Mr. Ed. Cleveland of Clarion died on August 15 [14]th at his home there. Burial was in Glenwood cemetery at Goldfield on Thursday afternoon. Mr. Cleveland had been a resident of Wright count for many years. A large circle of relatives and friends mourn his departure.

Walter Cleveland, of Wyoming, was in town last week greeting old friends being called here by the death of his father, E. S. Cleveland, of Clarion, for many years a resident of Holmes and vicinity.

Wilmer Cleveland was here from Sheldon to attend the funeral of his father, E. S. Cleveland, last week and returned home shortly after the funeral to pack his furniture, etc. Mr. Cleveland and family will become resident of Clarion, occupying the house with his mother in the east part of the city. Walter Cleveland, of Gillette, Wyoming, remained for a visit with his mother and will keep his mother company, until the Wilmer Cleveland’s arrive.
