March 29, 1846 --- August 25, 1914

Daniel Pletcher, who has been in failing health for many months, died Tuesday evening at 6:30. He was a Veteran of the civil war and has long been a resident of the vicinity.

Daniel Pletcher son of Joseph and Margaret Pletcher was born March 29, 1846 in Marion Co., Ohio. And in 1851 came with his parents to Elkhart, Indiana where he spent his youth. During the time of our nations struggle he answered his countries call in March 1864 at 18 years of age, and enlisted in Co. D. 22nd Indiana Volunteer Infantry. And was discharged at Louisville Kentucky July 24 1865. In 1867 at Warsaw, Indiana he was united in marriage to Miss Saloma Seal and to this union was born 17 children of whom 12 are now living, four dying in infancy and one son William who died in 1908.

In 1885 the family came to Iowa and settled on a farm near Clarion, Wright County where they had lived until in Feb. 1909 when they came to Goldfield where they have since remained until his death which occurred Aug. 25, 1914, at 6:30 P. M. aged 68 years, 4 months and 26 days.

Mr. Pletcher was converted and united with the Goldfield Baptist church in 1909 of which he remained a member until death. He leaves to mourn his loss wife, 6 sons, 6 daughters, 35 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, also three brothers and three sisters, besides many other relatives and friends. Of his children one daughter lives in Washington, one in North Dakota, and one son in Minn., the rest all live in Wright County.

Another of our old citizens are past and gone before, his place is vacant in the home, the church, the community and among the Grand Army Boys.

Funeral services were held at the Baptist church Thursday, Aug. 27 at 1 P. M. conducted by the Pastor Rev. Nicholson.

Interment at the Glenwood Cemetery.

COUNTY NEWS BRIEFS.

The death of Daniel Pletcher occurred at Goldfield last week Tuesday. He was an old soldier and an old settler. He was the father of 17 children. 12 of whom are living.
