June 12, 1833 --- March 27, 1897

After nearly three years of intense suffering from a cancer Mrs. A. E. Corwin died at her home three miles southwest of town on Saturday morning last and was burled from the M. E. church Monday afternoon, Rev. C. B. Winter conducting the services.

Deceased was born in Mercer county Penn., June 12, 1833, and was therefore, 63, years, 9 months and 15 days old at the time of her death. While a child she moved with her parents to Ohio and afterward to Platteville, Wis., where she lived until 1855. That year she went to Waukegan, Illinois to attend school, and on the 11th of March, 1856, was united in marriage with her late husband, J. A. Corwin. A few months after their marriage the young couple removed to Blackhawk county, this state, and lived there until May, 1881, when with their family they came to this county and have ever since lived on the farm then purchased by Mr. Corwin in Dayton township.

Though quiet and unpretending the deceased was one of those kind, motherly old ladies who make friends of all with whom they are brought in contact. It was the privilege of the writer to know her intimately, and during the more than fifteen years acquaintance we never heard her speak ill of anyone, but have often known of her doing acts of kindness to those in need of assistance. Until poor health prevented she led an active life, her chief aim being to add as much as possible to the happiness of her family and friends. In all the relations of life she was true and steadfast and now that she has joined the ever increasing "silent majority,” her good example and deeds should serve as a guide to all who knew her.

Two sons and two daughters are left to mourn the loss of the love and wise counsel of a devoted mother and have the heartfelt sympathy of a large circle of friends in their sore bereavement.
