Last Rites Held Tues. For Albert Reed of Hardy

Albert Augusta Reed, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Reed, was born March 3, 1883 in Jasper County, Illinois, and passed away on July 18, 1954 at Mercy Hospital, Fort Dodge at the age of 72. He suffered a stroke on April 21 and had been very ill since that time.

Mr. Reed was united in marriage to Bertha Stanley of Newton, Illinois on August 25, 1907. Six children blessed this union.

About 39 years ago Mr. and Mrs. Reed came to Iowa from Illinois to settle in Humboldt County near Goldfield and Hardy. In 1945, Mr. Reed retired from farming and made his home in Hardy.

Mr. Reed’s parents, one brother, two half-sisters, one son, one grandson, and two great grandsons have preceded him in death.

Those who survive him are five children, Mrs. Miller Wergeland, Hardy, Iowa; Mrs. Jess Fisher, Renwick, Iowa; Mrs. Hiram Thompson, Humboldt, Iowa; Mr. Lester Reed, Eagle Grove, Iowa; Robert Reed, Hardy, Iowa; seventeen grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one sister; one half sister; and one half brother.

When still a young man, Mr. Reed was baptized in the Baptist Church at Bogata, Illinois. He recently united with the Methodist church of Hardy, Iowa.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at two o’clock from the Methodist Church in Hardy with Rev. Kessinger of LuVerne officiating. Mrs. W. P. Wittmer and Mrs. Stanley McCurry sang “The Old Rugged Cross,” “In The Garden,” and “ Beyond the Sunset,” accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Lawrence Nielsen. Pallbearers were Eugene, Melvin and Myron Haugland, Marvin Wergeland, and Edwin Wanken, all grandsons of the deceased, and Jerry Gorrell. Honorary pallbearers were three grandsons, Stanley and Terry Reed, and Danny Thompson, and a great grandson, Paul Wanken. Burial was at the Goldfield cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of the Beenen Funeral service.

Albert Reed, 72, of Hardy Died Sunday Morning

HARDY – Funeral services for Albert Reed, 72, of Hardy were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Hardy Methodist church. Burial was in the Goldfield cemetery.

Mr. Reed died Sunday morning at 1:45 o’clock at the Mercy hospital in Fort Dodge where he had been a patient for the past month.

He is survived by his wife, two son and three daughters.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon July 20, at 2 o'clock at the Methodist church in Hardy with Rev. R. R. Kessinger of LuVerne officiating. Mrs. Whittmer and Mrs. Stanley McCurry sang, "The Old Rugged Cross,” “In the Garden," and “Beyond the Sunset,” with piano accompaniment by Mrs. Lawrence Nielsen.

The pallbearers were Eugene Haugland, Melvin Haugland, Myron Haugland, Marvin Wergeland and Edwin Wanken, all grandsons of the deceased, and Jerry Gorrell. Honorary pallbearers were three grandsons; Stanley and Terry Reed, and Danny Thompson, and one great-grandson, Paul Wanken.

Burial was made in the Goldfield cemetery.

Out-of-town relatives and friends attending the services were Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Short of Oelwein, Mrs. Lily Daggy of Humboldt, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Brown of Corwith and Mrs. Bradford Buffington of Titonka.
