Nancy Ann Marvel Hathaway
12 August 1823 --- 5 February 1915

The death of Mrs. Nancy Marvel Hathaway occurred in this city last Friday, February 5, 1915, at the home of her son Chas. B. after a short illness, at the age of 91 years, 5 months and 23 days.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, Rev. S. M. Van Cleve of the Methodist church preaching the funeral sermon. Hers was a long life, well spent in charity and kindness to all. May she rest in peace.

Nancy Marvel Hathaway was born in Swansea, Mass., August 12, 1823. Soon afterwards her parents moved to North Dighton, Mass., and here her girlhood days were spent. At an early age she became a member of the Christian church, which membership she held until her death. In 1843 she was united in marriage to Leonard Hathaway. Two children were born to them, Charles B. and Otis L., both of this city. These two sons survive her, also seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. In 1855 she came west with her husband and settled in Bureau County, Illinois where they endured many privations of pioneer life. At the beginning of the Civil war they returned east, coming again to Illinois. At the close of the war, in 1887, they came to Eagle Grove, Iowa, where her remaining days were spent. After 69 years of companionship she lost her husband in May, 1912.
