Hayward, CA – Duane A. Samuels was born December 5, 1925 and passed away August 26, 2016 in Hayward, CA. His parents were Glenn R. and Vivian Gangstead Samuels. He graduated from High School in Goldfield, Iowa in 1943. He served on the U.S.S. OTTAWA AKA-101 from 1943 to 1945. He owned the Coast to Coast Hardware store in Fairway Park from 1970 to 1990. Duane is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marian and their three children: Sydney (Leland) Myers, Scott (Heidi) Samuels and Lisa (Jeff) Chadwick. He has 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, and a sister, Marjory (John) Elm. Duane was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert Samuels, sister Lois Fellows & brother Gene. Duane A. Samuels, 90, Hayward, Calif.

Duane A. Samuels was born December 5, 1925, and passed away August 26, 2016, in Hayward, Calif. His parents were Glenn R. and Vivian Gangstead Samuels. He graduated from Goldfield High School in 1943. He joined the Navy and served on the U.S.S OTTAWA AKA-101 from 1943 to 1945. He attended Fort Dodge Junior College, worked at Sears, Roebuck & Co, Foster Rosein, Moeler Mfg. Co. and Gamble’s. This experience helped when he owned the Coast to Coast Hardware Store in Fairway Park, Calif., (Nov. 1970-Dec. 1990). Duane graduated from Iowa State College, Ames, Iowa, June 1952, with a degree in Farm Operation. In November, he and his family moved to Los Angeles where he operated an Industrial Catering Truck for 19 years.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Marian Pirie, their three children: Sydney (Leland) Myers, Scott (Heidi) Samuels, and Lisa (Jeff) Chadwick, sister, Marjory (John) Elm. He has eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Robert “Don ” Samuels, sister, Lois “Jackie" Fellows; and brother, Gene Samuels.

Those attending the Goldfield Community School reunion next year should be ready to bid on the #001 limited edition Centennial (1892-1992) belt buckle that Duane got into a bidding war over back in 1992, and ended up paying $400 for. Proceeds will go to further enrich the school.
