Services for Fred S. Bjornson, 81, longtime Goldfield resident, were Wednesday at 2 p.m at the United Presbyterian Church here with burial in Glenwood Cemetery.

Mr. Bjornson died Monday at the Rotary Ann Home in Eagle Grove following a lengthy illness. Survivors include four sons, Donald and Merle, both of Goldfield; Orville and Fred, Des Moines; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Homer Bjornson, McAllen, Tex., and one sister, Mrs. Ada Rasmussen, Des Moines.

Born in Goldfield, Mr. Bjornson attended country school in the area. He married Lena Nelson of Goldfield at Clarion in 1912. They lived near Goldfield and Hardy before moving to the present farm in 1918. Mrs. Bjornson died last year. He was a member of the former Baptist Church here.

Fred S. Bjornson was born July 18, 1889, near Goldfield, the son of H. B. and Amanda Montgomery Bjornson. He received his education in the country school, and attended the Renwick High School. He was united in marriage to Lena Nelson of Goldfield, at Clarion, on July 31, 1912, by the Rev. C. H. Van Meter. The young couple lived north of Goldfield and near Hardy for a time before moving to the present farm home in 1918. They were living at their farm at the time of Mrs. Bjornson's death in October of 1970. Mr. Bjornson continued to reside at the farm until moving to the Rotary Ann Retirement Home in Eagle Grove because of his health.

He passed away there on Monday, May 31, at the age of 81 years, 10 months and 13 days. Mr. Bjornson had retired from full time farming in 1942, but had continued to take an interest in farm life and had many other interests to occupy his leisure time.

Mr. and Mrs. Bjornson had become the parents of four sons, all of whom survive. They are Donald Arthur Bjornson, Goldfield; Orville Ben Bjornson, Des Moines; Merle Allen Bjornson, Goldfield and Fred J. Bjornson, Des Moines. In addition to the children, he is survived by: five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Homer Bjornson, McAllen, Tex.; and one sister, Mrs. Ada Rasmussen, Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, four brothers and one sister.

Mr. Bjornson was a member of the Baptist Church in Goldfield until it was dissolved. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge at Goldfield.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 2, at 2 p.m. in the United Presbyterian Church at Goldfield. The Rev. Frank Elliott officiated, and burial was in Glenwood Cemetery at Goldfield. Masonic rites were held at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
