Verla Askelson Bloom­quist, 79, of Fort Dodge passed away on Sunday, December 23, 2018 at Humboldt Care Cen­ter North in Humboldt, IA. The fun­eral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, December 28, 2018, at Badger Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Friday at the church. Burial will take place at Blossom Hill Cemetery.

Verla was born January 27, 1939, in Humboldt. She was united in marriage to Dean Askelson and they made their home in Badger, IA, where they farmed and operated D & V Lumber until Dean’s death. Verla was remarried in 1986 to Mervin Bloomquist. She had a passion for baking. Verla cooked many Norwegian suppers and loved to bake cookies. She was an active member of Badger Lutheran Church. Verla loved her dog and constant companion Toby.

Verla is survived by her husband Mervin Bloomquist; daughters, Deb (Paul) Friesth, Shelly (Dan) Sauter, Marna Lawler, Deana (Dewain) Gudmonson, and Jennifer (Don) Halstead; step-son, Terry (Cindy) Bloomquist; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and her dog, Toby. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Dean Askelson; her parents, Maynard and Birdell Torgerson; 4 brothers; 3 sisters; and 2 infant sisters.

She was loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
