Burton Chaffee
March 17, 1862 --- December 16, 1883

Last Saturday night occurred the death of Burt Chaffee. He has been a sufferer from consumption for some time and his death was not unexpected though none the less sad. The death of a young man just stepping on the platform of independent manhood has about it something peculiarly sad. They are the flowers of society, the beauty of humanity, the strength of our nation and the bulwarks of its institutions. He was 21 years of age.
