Obituary
Ida Irene Stoakes, daughter of James and Eliza Braden, was born July 5, 1869 in the pioneer settlement of Luni in Boone Township, Wright County, Iowa. She departed this life at the Clarion hospital, June 3rd at the age of 85 years and 11 months. At a very early age she moved with her parents to Liberty, (now Goldfield) where her parents operated a general store. Her first home in Liberty was in the building formerly used as the first Wright County Court house.

She was united in marriage to Henry E. Stoakes on February 26, 1890, and to this union were born four sons: Lawrence; deceased; Linwood, died in infancy; Kenneth of Los Angeles, Calif.; Braden of Goldfield; and one daughter, Carrie, Mrs. Clifford Ballou of Galt.

Aside from a period of seventeen years spent in Jasper County, Iowa, she has lived in or near Goldfield all of her life. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield. Her family's welfare and the comfort of others were her primary interests in life.

She was preceded in death by her husband and two sons; Survivors, besides her three children are one brother, William J. Braden of Goldfield, five grandchildren, Jack Stoakes, JoAnn Stoakes, Ken Stoakes of Goldfield, Mrs. Eleanor Shefloe of Minneapolis, Minn.. Lois Ballou of Galt and several cousins.

In these days when we are finding a proper interest in the early days of our community, her memory of persons, places and events was often sought. Her courage, Christian faith, and fortitude was admirable in the eyes of her pastor in recent months. We will miss her, as we do certainly miss our older ones as of necessity they are transferred from the church here to the communion of saints above.
