Frank L. Corey Retired Conductor Died Wednesday

Was Long-Time Employe of C. & N. W. Railroad

Mr. Frank L. Corey, well known retired railroad man of this city passed away Wednesday morning at 6:15 o’clock following a long siege of illness of hardening of the arteries and other complications. A heart attack was the immediate cause of death. For five years Mr. Corey’s health had been failing and since last fall his condition had been critical.

Retired 6 Years Ago

Six years ago this coming spring he was retired from railroad service which ended a long career with the Chicago Northwestern railroad, having started in the work a mere lad while living in Wisconsin. At the time of his retirement he was a passenger conductor on the northern Iowa division, the former I & M division. Through his jovial and friendly nature he was well known where ever his work took him and he was greatly missed by patrons and his railway associates when he retired from active duty.

For a number of years he worked out of Eagle Grove where forty-two years ago last November 1 he was united in marriage to Jennie V. Spears. They lived in Eagle Grove for a time then at Mason City, but the greater part of their married life was spent in this city, having their home at 1604-7th Ave.

Born in Wisconsin

His birthplace was Monroe, Wis., and his parents were Daniel and Minerva Corey. One brother, Dr. Fred J. Corey, and two sisters, Mrs. Maude Wilhelm and Miss Vera Corey, live in Havana, Ill., a sister Mrs. Jessie Hennes, is in Florida, a sister, Mrs. F. J. Martin lives in St. Louis, and another sister, Mrs. Pearl Van Epps, lives in Williams Bay, Wis.

Aside from his railroad organizations Mr. Corey belonged to the Masonic bodies, Hope Lodge No. 175 A. F. & A. M. this city, Royal Arch Masons at Eagle Grove, St. Bernard Commandery No. 14 KT of this city, and E. Kahir Shrine at Cedar Rapids.

He is survived by his wife and the brother and sisters.

The funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon at the Peffers Funeral Home in charge of the Rev. J. Irvine Walker of the Congregational Church with Masonic services in charge of Hope Lodge No. 175 A. F. & A. M. of this city.

The body will lie in state at the Funeral Home from Thursday afternoon to Friday afternoon.

The interment will be at Eagle Grove, Iowa, for which place the funeral cortege will leave on Saturday morning.

Mrs. J. H. Ziegler and daughter, June, of Carroll, Iowa, arrived here Wednesday afternoon called by the death of Mr. F. L. Corey. The former is a niece of Mrs. Corey.

Funeral of Former Eagle Grove Man Is Held; Burial Made

EAGLE GROVE—Funeral services for Frank Corey, former resident, pensioned C. & N. W. conductor, were held at the funeral parlors of Kubitschek and Kastler, Saturday, with burial in Rose Hill cemetery. Services were in charge of the Rev. Albert S. Kilbourn, of the Congregational church.

The pallbearers were James Sterling, L. E. Beer, Anson Bedley, George Heard, Roy Jergenson and Harry Shurtz.

Railroad News

Frank L. Corey, pensioned Chicago & North Western railway conductor, died at his home at Belle Plaine, Feb. 14, at the age of 77. For many years Mr. Corey had operated on the Chicago & North Western line through Mason City. Funeral services were held at Belle Plaine Friday.

Services Friday For F. L. Corey

Funeral services for the late F. L. Corey were held at the Peffers Funeral Home in this city on last Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. J. Irvine Walker of the Congregational Church officiating and with Masonic services in charge of Hope Lodge No. 175 A.F.&A.M. of this city. There was a large gathering of friends and relatives in attendance which included the following from a distance: Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Zeigler and daughter June of Carroll, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Braden of Dysart, Iowa; Mrs. Chas. Slater of Boone; and Supt. M. J. Boyles and others of Mason City, Ia.

Buried at Eagle Grove

The body was taken overland on Saturday morning, accompanied by Mrs. Corey and relatives, to Eagle Grove where funeral services were held that afternoon conducted at the Kubitschek and Kastler Funeral Home by the Rev. Kilbourn of the Congregational Church. Members of the Masonic Order of which Mr. Corey was a member and many old friends and neighbors were present for the last rites.

Interment was in the family lot in Rose Hill cemetery where the parents and other relatives of Mrs. Corey are burled.

Mrs. F. L. Corey returned home Monday from Eagle Grove after accompanying the body of Mr. Corey there for burial on Saturday. Her nephew E. A. Braden and wife of Dysart, who had also been attending the funeral services, brought her home. While in Eagle Grove they were the guests in the home of relatives, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Nobles and Mr. and Mrs. Al Watkins.
