Rites for James E. Gangstead Are Held at Goldfield

GOLDFIELD, Dec. 29. —Funeral services for James E. Gangstead, 78, who died at his home four miles west of this city Saturday afternoon, were held Monday afternoon. He had been ill but a few days with bronchial pneumonia. He was a prominent farmer of Humboldt county and had resided on the same farm approximately half a century. The services were at the Norwegian Lutheran church.

Death Claims J. E. Gangstead

J. E. Gangstead, well known farmer who lived west of Goldfield, died at his home Saturday noon. Mr. Gangstead had not been ill until Friday and pneumonia set in at once and he passed away Saturday. Funeral services were held at the Lake Lutheran church Monday with Rev. T. J, Severtson of Eagle Grove conducting the service.

James E. Gangstead was born December 22, 1858 at Skadberg in Smaalenene, Norway, of parents Eric and Grette Gangstead, and died in his home near Goldfield, Iowa, December 27, 1930, age 72 years and 5 days.

He came to U. S. A. in 1871 at the age of 12 years. At the age of 14 years he received instruction under Rev. Andreas Aaserd and confessed his Christian faith by Confirmation at Badger, Iowa.

June 3, 1888, he was united in marriage to Miss Rosa Knutson and made his home on the farm which has since been their home these 42 years. Seven children were born to this union namely Mrs. Anna Clausen, deceased; Mrs. Isadore Oppedahl, Renwick, Iowa; Mrs. Jennie McCutcheon, deceased; Arthur Gangstead, Ames, Iowa; Joseph Gangstead, Goldfield, Iowa; Mrs. Clara Liljedahl, Montezuma, Iowa; and Mrs. Vivian Samuels, Goldfield, Iowa.

He is now survived by his wife, five of the children and by 12 grandchildren, also by two sisters viz Mrs. Helena Halgrim, Thor, Iowa, and Mrs. Olaf Gunderson, West Concord, Minn., and by three brothers viz Herman of Valley City, N. D., Hans of Goldfield and Edward of Omaha, Neb., together with a large number of relatives and friends.

Mr. Gangstead was a peaceful man and a good citizen and a very loyal church member, a kind husband and father. He has been falling for several years but the end came rather sudden.

Funeral service was held from the Lake Lutheran, Church Monday afternoon, December 29, burial was made in the Lake cemetery. Rev. H. C. Holm assisted the local pastor at the services.
