August 1, 1863 --- December 18, 1937

TRAER – A. J. McCutcheon was called to Goldfield by the death of his mother, Mrs. Andrew McCutcheon, well known in this community. A large delegation of Traer relatives and friends went to Goldfield Monday to attend funeral services.

Funeral Services Held Monday Afternoon at 2:00 with the Rev. Haupt Conducting the Services.

Mrs. Andrew McCutcheon passed away at her home north of Goldfield Saturday morning about 9:30 after an illness of many months. Mrs. McCutcheon has lived in or near Goldfield for 38 years and is well known and highly respected throughout the community. She has been in poor health for several years but has been cheerful in spite of her suffering. She was a loving mother, and a constant and faithful worker in the U. P. church. She will be greatly missed by her many friends in this community. Funeral services were held at the U. P. church, Monday at 2 p. m. with the Rev. John Haupt conducting the service. Burial was at the Goldfield cemetery.

Obituary

Jeanette S. Provan, daughter of William and Jane Provan was born August 1, 1863, at Traer, Tama county, Iowa. She lived in Traer until 1873 and in Linn and Carroll counties until 1884, when she moved with her family to Clark, So. Dak.

On March 15, 1886, she was united in marriage with Andrew McCutcheon of Traer, where she lived until 1889. She has been a resident of the Goldfield community from that time until her death, Dec. 18, 1937, at the age of 74 years, 4 months and 15 days. She was the mother of eight children, one of whom died in infancy. Her husband and seven children were at the bedside when she passed away.

Her children are: John, Will and George of Goldfield, Mrs. Everett Hoyt of Eagle Grove, Arthur of Traer, Edna of Des Moines, and Mrs. Eugene Lister of Ottumwa. There are 20 grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, S. J. Provan of Fargo, and Frank Provan, Ypsilanti, No. Dak., and five sisters, Mrs. Jessie R. Cotton of Bozeman, Mont., Mrs. E. Dowd and Mrs. John Anderson of Waubay, So. Dak., Mrs. R. H. Keith of Rowan and Mrs. James Clowes of Renwick. Her twin sister, Mrs. Dave Keith of Goldfield preceded her in death by three years.

Mrs McCutcheon made a profession of her faith at the age of 14. Since that time she has lived close to her master. She has been a Member of the United Presbyterian church since she came to Goldfield. Her Christian faith was indeed a part of her life and found expression in unfailing cheerfulness, loving service and helpfulness to everyone about her. It enabled her to see always the bright side of life and to have courage and infinite patience even in the midst of suffering.

The beautiful life through the years has made her very dear to her family, her church and her multitude of friends.

Keith, Rowan; Mr. and Mrs. Russell Keith, Garner, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Gorrell, Mr. and Mrs. Donald McGowen, Mrs. Arlo McGowen, Mrs. Geo. Bell, Robert McGowen all of Renwick; Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Hoyt, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Pardun, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Pardun, all of Clarion; Mr. and Mrs. Penn Eckles [Eckels] of Britt; Mr. and Mrs. Sam Umstead, Miss Francis Wright, Miss Hazel Brooks of Eagle Grove.

Mrs. Andrew McCutcheon, Goldfield, Died Saturday

Mrs. Andrew McCutcheon died at her home north of Goldfield last Saturday morning after an illness of many months. She was 74 years old and is survived by her husband and seven children. She was a sister of Mrs. James Clowes of Renwick and had a number of other relatives and many friends in this community.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Presbyterian church in Goldfield with Rev. John Haupt officiating, and burial was made in the Goldfield cemetery.

Among those from this community attending the funeral were: Mrs. George Bell, R. E. McGowan, Mrs. Arlo McGowen, Mr. and Mrs. Donald McGowen, Mr. and Mrs. Will McGowen, James McGowan Sr. and James Jr. and Marion McGowan, Mr. and Mrs. James Clowes and children and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Gorrell.
