W. Hanson dies; rites scheduled
Ward A. Hanson, 67, retired railroad switchman who lived for many years at 1201 3rd SW, died suddenly Monday at a Mason City retirement home where he had lived a few weeks. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. The Rev. Emmett Braselton, pastor of the Eagle Grove First Congregational Church, will officiate.

Mr. Hanson was born June 28, 1903, in Iowa City, the son of Clarence and Lulu (Bell) Hanson. He attended Eagle Grove schools. He married Phyllis M. Packard, Aug. 31, 1921, in Humboldt, and they moved to Mason City in 1936. He worked as a switchman for the Chicago & North Western Railway until his retirement in 1965. He was a member of the Bower Masonic Lodge 464 of Eagle Grove and the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen.

Mr. Hanson is survived by two sisters, Mrs. John (Phyllis) Christianson, Ottosen, and Mrs. Curt (Marjorie) Fox, Livermore; one brother, Eugene R. of Alexandria, Va.; one nephew and four nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife and one sister in infancy. Friends may call at the Major Memorial Chapel from 4 p.m. Wednesday until 9 a.m. Thursday.
