Waldo V. Parmeter
14 January 1836 ---- 2 August 1901Death of W. V. Parmeter
Waldo V. Parmeter was born in Maine January 14th 1836, and died at Eagle Grove at the residence of S. O. Pillsbury on Aug. 2. On September 10, 1861, he was married and became the father of two children one of whom died in infancy, the other, Ray, being in business at Hardy. Mrs. Parmeter died in December, 1894, and Mr. Parmeter came to Eagle Grove where he has since made his home with the family of S. O. Pillsbury he being a brother of Mrs. Pillsbury.Mr. Parmeter was one of the "Old Guard" having enlisted in 1860 and being in service through the entire Civil War. He was in many important battles and marched with Sherman to the sea. He represents a style of citizenship that is rapidly going from us and over each grave we must drop a tear at the thought that the lives and influence of these heroes cannot be perpetuated forever for the good of generations to come.
From the standpoint of brotherly kindness and the service of helpful ministry the life of Mr. Parmeter was a splendid success as all who knew him will testify. His example still lives in the hearts of many.
Funeral services were held in the M. E. church last Sunday at 2:30 o'clock.
