Obituary

In Memory of my young friend and convert, Hugh McCutcheon. He was born August 27, 1885, and died of tuberculosis of the bowels March 24, 1904 just out of boyhood into young manhood. He was the second son of Mr. and Mrs. William McCutcheon, and a member of the Goldfield United Presbyterian church, Goldfield, Iowa. Hugh was a good, faithful, industrious, manly, Christian boy, his father's companion and hope for the future, his mother's delight and his seven sisters’ help and joy, and his every schoolmates’ true and trusted friend. He had no enemies and is certainly missed in the home, the school, the church and the community, more especially from his father's presence. Much as he would have desired to live, he was sweetly resigned to the higher will of his Heavenly Father, expressing himself, "If it is God's will, I am willing to go." It is surely comforting to those still in tears to know that his mind was clear and his hope, brightening to the very end, and we may feel assured that his life was bid with Christ in God and that he sleeps in Jesus and “them that sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.” His death has glorified God in the quickening of the spiritual life of the home. Father, mother, brother's, sisters’ Hugh beckons you to make ready to follow him to the many mansion d home. To the God of all grace and comfort we commend you, in your sorrow “Sorrow not as they that have no hope," for “Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord."

The funeral services were conducted, Saturday, from the U. P. church of which the deceased was it member, by Rev. Mr. Findley, and followed to their resting place, in Glenwood by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and sympathizing friends.
