CATHARINA H. MELHUS
Catharina Schnell was born January 16, 1911 at Herington, Kan., the daughter of John and Elizabeth Miller Schnell. She was raised and educated in Goldfield. She lived in Eagle Grove and later at Galt where for many years she was a teller in the bank. In 1970, she moved to Mason City and lived there until going to Des Moines in 1980.

Catharina H. Melhus, 79, Des Moines, died at her home on Friday morning, May 25, 1990. She had been in failing health for the past three and one-half
years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, and two sisters. She is survived by three children: Leslie C. (Chuck) Humphreys, Joplin, Mo.; Barbara Jean Moses, Hanover Park, Ill.; and William D. Humphreys, Des Moines; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul Schnell, Clarion; and two sisters, Amelia Broadfoot and Elizabeth Berg, both of Moline, Ill.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 29 at 1 p.m. from the chapel of the Eyler-Willim Funeral Home in Clarion. Her grandson, Ron Humphreys, officiated, and burial was in Glenwood Cemetery at Goldfield.
