Services Tuesday For Mrs. M. D. Hickey

Funeral services were held this past Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 2 at the Dike First Methodist Church for Mrs. Merlin D. Hickey. Mrs. Hickey, 56, passed away at 10:20 a.m. last Saturday morning at the Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls. She had been a patient at the hospital for observation and treatment for seven days.

Rev. Lloyd Bair officiated at the 1:30 services. Burial was in the Elmwood cemetery. The body had been at the Dike Funeral Chapel for viewing on Sunday and Monday prior to the services.

She was born Thelma Margaritte Fielder on April 22, 1911, the daughter of Edward and Hattie Fielder, at Fremont, Iowa. She was married to Merlin Hickey on Feb. 8, 1930, in Lancaster, Mo. They had lived various places in Iowa due to Mr. Hickey's work, living in Renwick for four years before moving to Dike in 1946.

Mrs. Hickey was a member of the Dike First Methodist Church and the Grant Rebekah Lodge.

She is survived by her husband; three daughters, Mrs. James (Doris) Jansen, route 2, Cedar Falls, Mrs. Larry (Dorla) Arends of route 3, Cedar Falls, and Janice, at home; two brothers, Ray Fielder of Fremont, Iowa and Lewis Fielder of Muscatine; three sisters, Mrs. Gladys Merryfield of Fremont, Mrs. Etta Mae Courtney of Ottumwa and Mrs. Doris Kruger of Pocahontas; four granddaughters and one grandson. A son, her parents and two brothers preceded her in death.
