Earl Darwin Vandries was born April 15, 1947, at Clarion, Iowa, the son of Afons and Marie Parrish Vandries. As a young man, he attended school in Clarion, Eagle Grove and then in California at Harvard Military Academy, Van Nuys. He attained the God and Country Award and the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts. He served in the armed forces in Vietnam as a door-gunner with a helicopter unit, was honorably discharged and
lived for three years in Hawaii. He returned to California and was united in marriage to Maureen McGuire in Van Nuys on January 19, 1973.For the past two months they have lived in Seattle, Wash. Earl died suddenly at his home in Seattle on Friday, January 25, at the age of 26 years, 9 months and 10 days. He is survived by his wife, his parents, two sisters, Miss Jody Ripper, Edina, Minnesota, and Miss Althea Vandries, Van Nuys, Calif.; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Parrish, Eagle Grove.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at the United Methodist Church, Eagle Grove. Rev. George Den Hartog officiated and burial was in the Graceland Cemetery, Webster City.
