Grace Mae Mickleson Allen
5 February 1882 ---- 2 March 1980

Grace Mae Allen, age 98, passed away Sunday, March 2,1980 at Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge, Ia. Mrs. Allen had been admitted there the day before after suffering a heart attack.

Grace M. Mickleson was born February 5, 1882, on a farm southeast of Eagle Grove, the daughter of Newton and Fanny Gamble Mickleson.

The family moved by covered wagon in the fall of 1886 and homesteaded in Nebraska and then moved back to Pocahontas County, Iowa in March of 1890. In March of 1897 they settled in Eagle Grove again.

Grace graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1902 and taught there until her marriage to Fred Allen on April 21, 1909. Four children were born to Fred and Grace: Mildred Lucille Allen Bernard, Carol June Allen Fisher, Eugene Arle Allen and Frederick Harry Allen. They engaged in farming around Eagle Grove until 1951 when the couple retired and moved to Eagle Grove. On April 19, 1959 they celebrated 50 golden years of marriage.

Grace has been a resident of the Rotary Ann Retirement Home for the past seven years.

She was a charter member of the Troy Culture Club, a 4-H leader for many years, a member of the United Methodist Church, Eagle Grove, and also of the United Methodist women. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and also the White Shrine.

Mrs. Allen is survived by three of her children: Lucille, Mrs. George Bernard, of Eagle Grove, Harry Allen of Eagle Grove and Arle Allen of Clear Lake, also eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; her daughter, Carol; a grandson, Denny Allen, and by a sister, Hattie, and a brother, Harry.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 5, 1980 at l:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, Eagle Grove. Rev. Donald Callen officiated and burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
