Loy Earl Prettyman, the son of William J. and Martha Rebecca Hunt Prettyman, was born on September 24, 1898, at Harrisonville, Mo. He grew up in Missouri and received his education there. On Dec. 27, 1917, he was united in marriage with Nina Grace Pletcher at Kansas City. The couple moved to Goldfield and Earl was employed at Whyte and Sons for several years and was employed at the Goldfield Co-op Elevator from 1943 until he retired in 1966. Mrs. Prettyman died in 1967.
Earl had been a resident of the Rotary Ann Retirement Home in Eagle Grove since July of 1975. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Goldfield. He died early Thursday morning, March 27, 1986 at the Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge at the age of 87 years, six months and three days.
He is survived by two daughters, Gladys, Mrs. Edward Mamulski of Grass Valley, Calif., and Mrs. Doris Jean Bjorgan of Seattle, Wash.; three granddaughters, Linda Bjorgan of Seattle, Peggy Bjorgan of Glenmore, Penn., and Mary Kay, Mrs. Michael Riley of Whitefish, Mont.; a brother, Roy Prettyman of Neosha, Mo. and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, an infant son and a brother, Matt.
Funeral services for L. Earl Prettyman, 87, were held on Saturday, March 29, 1986 at 1:30 p.m. at the Goldfield United Methodist Church. Rev. Ken Peterson, church pastor, officiated and burial was in the Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield. Visitation was held on Friday at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home.
