SIDNEY E. CLEVELAND; LT. COLONEL U.S. AIR FORCE, RETIRED

Lt. Colonel Sidney Eugene Cleveland, 82, a 31-year resident of the county, died April 1, 1985 in San Bernardino.

A retired Lt. Colonel for 14 years from the U.S. Air Force, he was a Protestant. He had a life long love of flying, was an Elder Emeritus in Faith Bible Church, taught High School Sunday School Class and influenced many young lives, conducted services for many years at San Bernardino Mission.

Survivors include his wife, Nola of San Bernardino; two sisters, Ruth Lyons of Goldfield, Iowa and Margie Miles of Columbia, Missouri; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Services 1 p.m. Thursday at Faith Bible Church, 29th and "G" Sts. Interment in Goldfield, Iowa. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bobbitt Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund at Faith Bible Church.

SIDNEY EUGENE CLEVELAND

Sidney Eugene Cleveland, (Lt. Col. Ret. U.S.A.F.), the son of Charles S. and Ina A. Crall Cleveland, was born on September 20, 1902, at Goldfield, Iowa. He grew up in the Goldfield, area and received his education and graduated from the Goldfield High School. He had a life long love of flying airplanes, and was a test pilot for an aircraft company in southern Iowa. He was united in marriage with Nola Shaw at Des Moines, Iowa. The couple lived at Spencer, where he was the manager of the local airport and later moved to Columbia, Missouri, where he was the airport manager and trained pilots for the University of Missouri and the United States Air Force at Columbia. He was a member of the Air National Guard and later was a member of the United States Air Force, until he retired after 14 years of active service to his country. He and Nola continued to make their home in California after retiring. He was a long-time member of the Faith Bible Church, in San Bernardino, Calif, and was an Elder Emeritus of the church. He had taught high school Sunday School class and influenced many young lives and for several years he conducted services at the San Bernardino Mission.

He died at the St. Bernadines Hospital in San Bernardino, Calif.; on Monday, April 1, 1985 at the age of 82 years, 6 months and 11 days.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nola Shaw Cleveland of San Bernardino, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Lyons of Goldfield, Iowa and Mrs. Margie Miles of Columbia, Mo., and nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ralph.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, April 4, 1985 at l p.m. at the Faith Bible Church in San Bernardino, Calif., for Lt. Col. Sidney Cleveland, (Ret.) Graveside services were, held on Monday, April 8, at the Glenwood Cemetery at Goldfield. Rev. Ernest Lautt, pastor of the Eagle Grove Baptist Church officiated and Military Honors were conducted by the officers and members of the Goldfield American Legion Post. Visitation was held on Sunday at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home in Eagle Grove.
