Agnes Williamson Lorimer Whittier
3 September 1865 ---- 14 April 1934

Agnes Williamson Lorimer, was born in Manchester, England, Sept. 3, 1865, to the parents of William and Sarah H. Lorimer, and died at her home in Eagle Grove, Iowa April 14, 1934, at the age of 68 years, 7 months and 11 days.

She came from England with her parents at the age of two and lived for a short time in Ohio and Illinois, later moving to Wisconsin, where she grew to womanhood and received her education.

On Sept. 5, 1881, she was united in marriage with Francis Marion Whittier, a third cousin of John Greenleaf Whittier, at Wausau, Wis. Here they established their first home. To them were born eight children, four sons and four daughters. Two of the sons have preceded her in death.

They came to Fertile, Iowa, where they lived a short time and then moved to Nebraska where they lived for three years, moving then to Chicago where they lived until 1907, when they came to Iowa and settled on a farm in Hancock county near Forest City. In 1917 they retired from the farm and moved to Eagle Grove where Mr. Whittier died on Nov. 27, 1926. Since then she has kept up the home and has been active in church and community affairs.

Mrs. Whittier was the daughter of a Presbyterian minister and was raised in a Christian atmosphere. She early united with the church and was a devoted and loyal member. Upon moving to Eagle Grove she united with the Methodist church of which she was a faithful member to the end. She was a faithful attendant at the prayer services as well as the other meetings of worship. Her public prayers and testimonies will be long remembered for their earnestness and sincerity. She was a woman of deep conviction and enduring faith. The young people of the church and the little children loved her dearly. Her sweet smile and kindly words will be a constant blessing and benediction to all who knew her.

She leaves, her family lonely at her going, yet comforted in her faith in her loving the Lord. She is survived by four daughters and two sons: Eunice (Mrs. R. E. Conlon) of Fargo, N. D., Mamie (Mrs. C. R. McAdams) Lake City, Iowa; Edna (Mrs. B. H. Peasley), Arnolds Park; Agnes (Mrs. B. W. Miller) of Bixby, Okla; Albin H. Whittier of Baltimore, Mo.; and Marion Whittier of Eagle Grove. She leaves also two brothers and three sisters, William and John Lorimer, Mrs. Edward Bradfield; Mrs. Sarah Short and Miss Mary J. Lorimer all of Chicago, Ill. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews and a host of neighbors and friends who will be lonely at her going.

She has fought a good fight and has finished her work and now rightfully awaits the heavenly crowning.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Methodist church. Burial in Rose Hill cemetery.
