Baltz Wohlwend
10 March 1869 ---- 17 March 1939

Baltz Wohlwend, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Wohlwend, was born March 10, 1869, at Ruti Canton Glorus, Switzerland, and passed away at the Fort Dodge Lutheran hospital March 17, 1939, being 70 years and 7 days of age at the time of his death.

At the age of 2 years he, with his parents came to America, coming to Pittsburg, Pa., where they resided until he was 10 years of age, moving at that time to Monroe, Wis. At an early age Mr. Wohlwend learned the cheese and butter making trade which he followed for more than 14 years.

On December 8, 1897 he was married to Ida Louise Schalow at Ripon, Wis. To this union four children were born, Leila Adelia passing away as an infant.

The Wohlwend’s lived in several communities in Wisconsin where Mr. Wohlwend followed his trade moving in 1908 to Thompson, Iowa where he farmed for some 10 years and then moved to Thor where he has been in the hardware business since.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ida Wohlwend, two daughters, Mrs. Violet Grabe of Chicago and Mrs. Adelia Beckel of Vincent, and one son, Edward of Thor, two grandchildren, four sisters, Mrs. Anna Bumpke of Broadhead, Wis., Mrs. Emma Johnson of Juda, Wis., Mrs. Ida Fengra of Monroe, Wis., and Mollie Wohlwend of San Pedro, Ca., and one brother John Wohlwend of Dumont, Minn., besides other relatives and many friends.

At an early age he was confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran church at Monroe, Wis.

Mr. Wohlwend was a good neighbor, a kind and faithful husband and father and will be greatly missed by the family and all who knew him.

For a number of years he was affiliated with the Masonic order, being a member of Bower Lodge No. 464 of Eagle Grove at the time of his death.

Funeral services were held at Wilson's Chapel at Eagle Grove, Sunday, March 19, at 2 p.m. and interment was made in Rosehill cemetery. Rev. Tumbleson of the Methodist church was in charge of the service and he was assisted at the grave by the local Masonic lodge.
