Ruth M. Kist, 86, of Downers Grove, Illinois, formerly of Eagle Grove, died on Friday, November 3, 2006, at Rest Haven West in Downers Grove, Illinois. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2006, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Thor with Pastors Paul Stone and Stan Olson officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to the service. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Eagle Grove.

She is survived by her son, Gary Kist and his wife, Eve, of Bartlett, Ill.; two grandsons, David Kist of Modesto, Calif.; and William Kist, of Eden Prairie, Minn.; and a sister, Helen Budd, of Osage. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John, in October of 2006; a son, Michael, and two brothers, Ray and Norris.

Ruth Madeline Kist was born on May 12, 1920, in Eagle Grove, Iowa, the daughter of Lester and Severina (Roseland) Olson. She was raised and educated in the area of her birth, graduating from Eagle Grove High School. She then received her teaching degree from Waldorf College in Forest City. In 1944 she married John Kist. Ruth was a teacher. In the early years, she taught school at Little Cedar and Early, Iowa. Later, she taught special education at Downers Grove, Illinois until her retirement.

The Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove was in charge of the arrangements.
