Harold Hill, 74, of Belmond, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2019 at home.

Funeral services for Harold Hill will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at Luick Memorial Auditorium at Belmond Klemme High School, 411 10th Avenue Northeast in Belmond. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 PM on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick’s Lane South in Belmond, and will continue one hour prior to services at the auditorium on Wednesday.

Harold Aaron, son of Henry and Adelaide (Soma) Hill, was born in the Belmond Hospital on June 4, 1945. Harold attended and graduated from Belmond High School in 1964. After high school, Harold attended college in Minneapolis and Webster City Community College, where he met his wife, Sheryl Ask.

On August 4, 1968, Harold and Sheryl were married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Webster City. The couple made their home on the Hill family farm where they raised three children. Harold was a farmer of corn and soybeans, chickens and livestock before working at Winnebago, Eaton Corporation and Electrolux. In his retirement he was working at Belmond-Klemme High School.

Harold was a member of the Mason City Symphony Orchestra for 10 years before joining the Fort Dodge Symphony Orchestra, where he played violin for the past 24 years. Harold directed St. Olaf Church Choir for 13 years and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was active with the choir, food pantry and community meals.

Harold had an outgoing personality and enjoyed talking to everyone about his varied interests including but not limited to music, quilting, traveling to see his son and his family in Japan, motorcycling through the Badlands with his best friend, gardening with his daughter, trips to Des Moines with his wife for dinner with their daughters, and his daily interactions with the students at the school.

Harold is survived by his wife Sheryl Hill of Belmond; three children Nathan (Takako) Hill of Okinawa, Japan, Sara (David Baruthio) Hill of Des Moines, and Dori (Steve) Wimp of Des Moines; seven grandsons Victor Baruthio of France, William Baruthio of France, Samuel Baruthio of Des Moines, Benjamin Baruthio of Des Moines, Mitsuki Hill of Japan, Mitsuyoshi Hill of Japan, and Mitsunari Hill of Japan; sister Connie (David) Guetzke; brother Erwin (Iva Jeanne) Hill; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and other family members.

Fort Dodge Symphony and Orchestra will be honoring Harold at their concert at 3:00 PM on December 1, 2019 at Fort Dodge Middle School, 800 North 32nd Street in Fort Dodge.
