Florence Beatrice (King) Baldus
March 5, 1912 --- August 3, 1983

Florence Beatrice Baldus, the daughter of Thomas and Collette Ann Dooley King, was born on March 5, 1912 at Winterset, Iowa. She moved with her parents to the Ames area and graduated from the Gilbert High School. She also graduated from the Ottumwa Heights College and then taught school for three years. On Aug. 11, 1936, she was united in marriage with Benedict Baldus at Gilbert, Iowa. To this union were born four children, John, Patrick, Janet and Marilyn. The family lived in the Story City and Ames area and in 1948, they moved to Eagle Grove. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, Catholic Daughters of America; the Catholic Forestors and the Sacred Heart Guild.

She died at the Rotary Ann Home in Eagle Grove on Wednesday morning, Aug. 3, 1983, at the age of 71 years, four months and 28 days. She is survived by her husband, Ben Baldus of Eagle Grove; her son, John Baldus of Ankeny; three daughters, Patricia, Mrs. William Harney of Oxford, Iowa; Mrs. Janet Miller of Davenport; Marilyn, Mrs. John Bullinger of Aloha, Ore.; nine grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; two great-stepchildren; a sister, Mrs. Marie McKinley of Ames; two brothers, Thomas King, who lives in California and Eugene King, who lives at Indianola and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Marcellus and George King.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ben (Florence) Baldus, 71, of Eagle Grove, were held on Saturday, Aug. 6, 1983 at 9:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove. Rev. Fr. John Hemann, church pastor was the officiant and burial was in the Calvary Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Catholic Daughters rosary services were held at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. and the parish rosary services were held at the funeral home at 8 p.m. Friday.
